Hugh McCracken

Hugh was born in Glasgow, Scotland and had his early education somewhat interrupted by evacuation during World War II. After taking a degree in Chemistry and Mathematics at St Andrews University he worked for some time as a Chemical Engineer, and had some adventures in France, before becoming a teacher. He, his wife Lyn, and son David, relocated to Canada in 1967 where his second son, Iain, was born. While teaching in Canada, Hugh completed a Bachelor's degree in Education and a Master's degree in Educational Psychology at the University of Manitoba. For thirteen years he was a junior-high/high-school principal.

Academic Awards: B.Sc.(Math), B.Sc.(Hons Chem), St Andrews; B.Ed., M.Ed.(Psychology), University of Manitoba; A.R.I.C. (while working as a chemist.)

Hugh now lives in Ottawa to be close to both sons, daughter-in-law Allison, and three grandchildren: Gillian, Malcolm, and Jenny, although he does spend part of each year at his other home in Dunoon, Argyll, Scotland.

For the past twenty-three years Hugh has been a freelance writer and editor, although he started writing much earlier.

A finalist for his novel Ring of Stone in the 2003 EPPIE Awards in the category Action/Adventure.

He also writes under the pseudonym Alistair Kinnon.
